Family Days Out

Portwrinkle Harbour Beach

At high tide there is no better beach to be with your kids.  It’s a safe bay for swimming with interesting rocky outcrops for snorkelling.  It’s perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding both of which you can borrow from us.  The harbour wall is also great for jumping off for both adults and kids alike.

Finish the day with a sunset BBQ on the beach and a glass of wine - ask to borrow our portable charcoal BBQ if you wish.

Make sure to monitor tide times and time your visit to straddle a couple of hours before and after high tide.

The Family Foraging Kitchen at Maker

Modern agricultural methods have meant that foraging, once a part of our ancestral daily life, has faded away, replaced by regular family trips to the supermarket. We are becoming more disconnected from the food that we eat.

Family foraging kitchen is a local CIC offering ticketed classes on beekeeping, seaweed harvesting, hedgerow foraging and Cornish hedge laying and wildflower meadow creation to name but a few.  Have a look for yourself here

Mount Edgecumbe

https://www.mountedgcumbe.gov.uk/

With wide ranging parkland, formal gardens and ever changing coastal views. The Mt Edgcumbe Country Park covers over 860 acres, stretching from Millbrook Lake around the Rame Head and Whitsand Bay, and taking in the villages of Cawsand and Kingsand.

In the heart of the park are the colourful 18th Century formal gardens in the Italian, French and English styles, complimented by the newly established American plantation and New Zealand garden. Exploring out into the landscaped park, there are any number of woodland and coastal walks giving marvellous views and access to unusual follies and the chance to see deer that roam freely in the park.

All this combines to make Mount Edgcumbe one of the most spectacular attractions in the West Country at any time of the year. One of only three Grade I Listed gardens in Cornwall, the park includes the National Camellia Collection and has some stunning examples of rhododendrons, and magnolias in the spring time.

A recent addition to the park is a model railway offering rides behind steam and electric engines. From Easter 2022 this will offer rides to the public on each Sunday and Thursday until the end of September between 1100 and 1500, weather permitting.

After wonderful walks or paddling in the river, try some afternoon tea at either the Orangery or The Farriers.

Antony House

Superb early 18th-century mansion set in parkland and fine gardens.

Faced in silver-grey Pentewan stone and flanked by colonnaded wings of mellow brick, this classically beautiful house is a beguiling mixture of the formal and informal. Still the home of the Carew Pole family, it contains fine collections of paintings, furniture and textiles.

The grounds bordering the Lynher estuary, landscaped by Repton, include a formal garden with topiary, a knot garden, modern sculptures and the National Collection of Daylilies.

The Woodland Garden, owned and run by the Carew Pole Garden Trust, has outstanding rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias and camellias.

Antony was used as the film set for Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton.

There are always activities either on the grounds or at the House.   Make sure to have a look at

The Eden Project

The Eden Project is home to the world's largest indoor rainforest. Eden's tropical biome houses an incredible selection of plants that make up the largest indoor rainforest in the world!

There is also the longest zip line in Europe here, however, queues are usually so long we recommend staying closer to home at Adrenaline Quarry for this.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan

Thirty years ago, Heligan’s historic gardens were unknown and unseen; lost to the brambles of time since the outbreak of WW1. It was only the chance discovery of a door in the ruins that led to the restoration of this once great estate. Today, The Lost Gardens have been put back where they belong: in pride of place among the finest gardens in England.
